A lifelong resident of Brooklyn Heights, he lives in a small apartment with his wife and son and a Shetland Pony named Ronaldo. His debut novel, Click Here To Start was published in 2016 by Delacorte Press and was a Junior Library Guild Selection and an Amazon Best Book of the Month.
The two then collaborated on Hush, Little Monster.
His first children's picture book, The Great Stroller Adventure was illustrated by his wife Melissa Iwai. With all that, the credit that seems to impress people the most is that he wrote an episode of Thundercats. He can be seen in the background of her critically acclaimed documentary, looking optimistic. He co-wrote a play with Joan Rivers which was produced in Los Angeles and London. Markell has also written special comedy material for everyone from Stiller and Meara to Nathan Lane, Brooke Shields and Alan Cumming, with Al Roker thrown in for good measure. Other works include the revue, Showing Off, and the musical Gotham!.
